Egyptian law is the most developed law among the Arab countries. Egypt adopted a Civil Code based on the French Code in the 1940s. The drafter of the Egyptian Civil Code was Al-Sanhuri. Most legal scholars consider him the most influential jurist in the Arab world. Not surprisingly, Al-Sanhuri was on the civil code drafting committee for many Arab countries. Egypt thus became the model legal system in the Arab world. With a substantial output of legal knowledge and expertise in Egypt, most Arab judges from around the Arab world consult the decisions of the Egyptian Court of Cassation regularly.
